Brief Summary
A lesson before dying is a story that shows how in the 1940's whites over-ruled colored people. Jefferson for example is a character in the story who is going to be sent to execution because of an incident that happen in a white mans store; first of all he was colored, and even though a colored person wouldn't have the guts to kill a white man he was still accused. Grant (a school teacher) has to make Jefferson feel as if he's a man rather than a hog before he dies because Jefferson's godmother wants him to know that.
